Think Pink:  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October ihangTVs.com is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About one in eight women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.  The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

Remember these points:

  • If you are a woman age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them.

  • If you are a woman age 50 to 74, be sure to get a mammogram every two years. You may also choose to get them more often.

  • Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours has had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms.

Traci T. - Survivor

I met Mr. Parker today in Chick Fil La where I am employed. I thanked him for his support when I saw the back of his and his son hoodie.

My name is Traci Thomas , 56 yrs of age. 4 beautiful children & 17 gorgeous grandchildren . I am a 4 time Breast Cancer survivor.

I was diagnosed Stage 4 the last time I was diagnosed in 2018 and they told me to go home and get my affairs in order that I may have 6-9 months to live.

That was 6 YEARS AGO !!

It was no one but our Heavenly Father in whom I trust and live my life. I thank my husband of 29 years for covering me and standing by me. I give GOD all the glory !!

Lenora F. - Survivor

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on January 19, 2019 and had a double mastectomy February 25, 2019 (Cancer Free). It was a new year and this wasn’t exactly how I planned on starting the year off; but on this journey the good Lord had me every step of the way! I was scared, mad, frustrated, all types of emotions stirring through my mind.

April 25th 2019 was my first chemo therapy treatment that were once a week until July 31, 2019. Radiation begin on August 23, 2019 two days before my birthday and all I could do on that day was thank God I was alive and well with him on my side! The last radiation treatment was October 25th 2019.

From January 19th until October 15th 2019 my year was faced with this chosen challenge. The reason I identify it as a chosen challenge is because God chooses his strong and obedient soldiers to go through things sometimes to show us how real he is.

Throughout my journey I had several supporters, but my two daughters are the real MVP’s, not only did this occupy my year it included theirs as well! To be so young and to see how strong they were for their mother brought tears to my eyes and still does to this day. Friends and family kept me optimistic with kind words, phone calls and sometimes to just to drop in from time to time to make sure I was ok and to let me know that everything was ok.

My workplace was as supportive as they could be from the beginning until the end, in which I’m very appreciative of. As the chosen one I have my good days and bad days more good than bad because the bad always ends as a good one after I reflect on what could’ve been versus what’s not. My faith through all of this is unwavering and will never be doubted, no situation is to big for my God and he has the last say so.

My Faith was much stronger then my Fear of what God can and will do.

Tiana - Survivor

My name is Tiana. I am 34 years old.

I am a wife and mother from the San Francisco Bay Area, born and raised in East Palo Alto -- the soul in the Silicon Valley.

My family and I currently reside in the East Bay Area, and to say I’m grateful we are together would be a gross understatement.

This is my story, the one God gave me to share, but it wouldn’t be complete without first telling you our story.

On our 4th wedding anniversary, 09/04/14, my 34 year old husband had a hemorrhagic stroke   in a coma for 2 weeks, and wore a medical helmet for 6 months because he had no left bone flap on the left side of his skull.

I assisted with in-home infusion treatments, helped bathe, feed and clothe him. I watched him learn to read and walk again.

In February 2015 he had his last brain surgery to replace his skull. He made a full recovery by our 5th wedding anniversary and his one year stroke anniversary on 09/04/15.

Two weeks later I found a lump.

On October 1, 2015, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer.

I began my first of 6 chemo rounds on October 1, 2015. I had bronchitis, pneumonia, and a blood transfusion.

On December 17, 2015, two days before my 34th birthday, I learned that chemo worked and upon physical examination the tumor shrank. A breast MRI in February 2016 revealed no tumor.

On February 24, 2016, I had a double mastectomy and BSO (removal of both Fallopian tubes and ovaries), and the pathology results from that surgery confirmed no evidence of cancer.

Praise God I was CANCER free!!!

However, I still had a road ahead of me. I have the BRCA-1 breast cancer gene; therefore, I had to finish out my treatment plan. Twenty-five treatments of radiation every weekday for 5 weeks in May 2016. I am to receive Herceptin infusions every 3 weeks until November 2016, and have two more major reconstruction surgeries to go.

After what we’ve been through the last couple of years, we’ve both kicked our faith into high gear. We’ve leaned into the Lord and grabbed a hold of His Word more than ever before. I’ve prayed and cried and cried out to Him more times than I can count, yet even in my darkest hour He brings me back to His truth.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
